About Cathy
A sensitive imaginative child, Cathy trained in classical Ballet from the age of 5. Her real talent, however, has always lain in her gift for art. At the age of 16 Cathy had to choose between art and dance, and a dancing career at that age seemed the more exciting of the two options. Her dancing career enabled her to travel worldwide before she eventually settled in Athens where she now lives with her family. Cathy’s personal life includes caring for an elderly person and looking after teenage sons.
Spiritually to someone of Cathy’s nature the lifestyle of a dancer was destructive and she unfortunately fell prey to many of the problems associated with it. Athens became her sanctuary from the world, a place where she could heal.
Cathy journeyed through Christianity then witchcraft until a shape shifting experience altered her perception of reality and bought her to Shamanism. Having no idea of what shamanism or a Shaman was Cathy was filled with an overwhelming desire to know more. It was that desire which brought her to Indie Shaman which she describes as having “spiritually nourished me ever since”. More recently Cathy became attracted to Voudon which has combined to become a part of her shamanic path.
Once as a self described hermit Cathy stepped away from the bright lights and the less attractive side of human nature to replenish her soul in solitude and reflection. Cathy’s shamanic journey has, she feels, helped her return to life. It was through this journey of 15 years, that healing and acceptance of self has come. Cathy says that “Shamanism has given me a balance that before was lacking. It is, I feel, helping me to become the person I was meant to be.”
Cathy is an intrepid spiritual explorer always on the road to a deeper understanding of herself and the world around her with the gift of an open, trusting and caring nature. As an Indie Shaman tutor Cathy aims to pass onto others the gift she feels she has received and considers it an honour to be able to offer help to others as they journey on a path with is not at times the easiest.
Shamans are often described as the walking wounded. That is because it is those scars from past experiences which enable them to help others in a way that someone who perhaps hasn’t been damaged in that way cannot. Cathy says she has a greater depth of understanding and empathy than she would otherwise have had and believes that “It is the gift of the broken and healed spirit which helps us to heal another’s wounds”.
