Indie Shaman Course in Shamanism
Course instructions, information and tips
- Take the Journeys at your own pace and do them on a day and at a time that suits you. Each exercise should be spaced at least one week apart and indeed you may prefer to space them further apart. The course can be continued throughout the time of your membership.
- To do the course you will need at least 1/2 hour to an hour a week to yourself where you can relax and journey. You will probably need longer particularly as you progress through the course. Allow at least 10 minutes before your Journey to get into trance and at least 10 minutes after to ground and return fully and completely.
- The course is numbered in the order the exercises should be carried out. Please do not skip ahead and read the next exercise before completing the one you are on.
- You will need to read the Journey through and then go and do it in a quiet space. You may find it useful to copy and print it, or write it out, so you can read it through before carrying it out. Do not try to read the exercise and Journey at the same time. Read the instructions of the exercise carefully and memorize the important points so that you don't find yourself mid journey wondering what comes next.
- You may find it useful to have a notepad and pen to write down any thoughts that come into your head during the Journey. Write any notes down immediately after the Journey rather than try to write while journeying.
- Please post your Journey experience and discussion response (where appropriate) in your private coursework folder. Your private coursework folder can only be seen by you and the course tutors. If you have any problems or need any help posting please pm or email a tutor, or use the contact us page on the Indie Shaman website.
- Don't compare your own Journey to any other course members’. Different individuals may find different exercises and journeys easier or harder. That is not a mark of intelligence or lack of or suitability or otherwise to Shamanism. Each person's experience will be unique to them.
- When writing your journey try to give as much information about it as possible including describing your feelings. Please remember the tutors judge your journeying experience not just by what you write but by making a connection with you and your journey. Giving more information makes it easier, particularly when you first join the course, for them to make that connection. Do not worry however about writing ‘perfect English’ or ‘well’. This is not a written exam!
- If you haven't a clue what to write about, the Journey doesn't work out how you expected, you just feel lost and didn’t manage to start a journey, or have questions before you start, please just post what you can or any questions you may have so the tutors can help you. There are no right or wrong answers nor is there such a thing as stupid questions so please don’t worry about posting. There are also no egos and everyone's opinions and comments are equally valued.
- It is part of the tutor’s role to encourage and bring out your potential. Therefore it is usual for questions to be asked after you have posted your Journey and also for more work to be undertaken after the initial exercise is completed.
- Please allow tutors up to a week to respond to your exercise, posts and questions.
- Shamanic development does contain elements of personal development. If you want to discuss a journey issue in private then do pm or email a tutor.
